K.C. officer injured in car crash

The Kansas City Star

KANSAS CITY A Kansas City police officer was in serious condition Saturday after his cruiser collided with two other cars.

The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday at Linwood Boulevard and Brooklyn Avenue.

Police could not say Saturday evening how the crash occurred.

Officer Jarett Whipple said that several passengers were in the two other cars and that some of them were children.

The victims were taken by helicopter to hospitals.

Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, Whipple said.

Witnesses at the scene said the officer turned on his siren as he approached the intersection.

An investigation is under way.
