Ala. deputy, man suffer serious burns in altercation
LISMAN, Ala. — A Choctaw County sheriff's deputy attempting to quell a domestic dispute was doused with gasoline and set afire by a man outside a rural home, leaving both men with critical burn injuries.
Sheriff Don Lolley said 30-year-old Deputy Clifton Spears underwent surgery at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, and is listed in critical condition today. He suffered third-degree burns to his face, chest, arms and lungs.
Spears was taken to a hospital in Meridian, Mississippi, before being airlifted to Georgia.
