RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An off-duty sheriff's deputy pulled a man from a burning pickup truck this morning after it collided with a semi truck on M-50 in a fiery crash that closed a section of the road.

Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Modica had just completed his shift at the Dundee substation and was following the semi on eastbound M-50 west of Strasburg Rd. when an oncoming pickup truck suddenly veered over and collided with the rig.

Both the semi, which was hauling 41,000 pounds of beer, and the pickup burst into flames. Deputy Modica ran to the pickup, which was engulfed in flames. He opened the passenger door and pulled the driver to safety.
