SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A police officer was injured and another person was killed by police Monday during an incident at the Natomas Marketplace shopping center at Interstate 80 and Truxel Road, authorities said.

Sacramento police officials said an officer was trying to make contact with at least two men in a red sedan when the driver abruptly accelerated the vehicle and struck the officer.

The officer fired his weapon at the car, which then crashed into a tree near the In-N-Out Burger restaurant. Police said at that time, two people were taken into custody. One of them — the driver of the car — died from his injuries.
