Police say 77-yr.-old's wrench stopped young attacker
Orlando Sentinel
PINELLAS COUNTY -- Authorities say a 77-year-old Florida man used a wrench to fight off a 22-year-old woman during an attempted robbery.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Walter Funk discovered Nicole Mason-Suares in his home Saturday morning after his 81-year-old wife, Ingebord, heard noises.
Authorities say Mason-Suares reached for a knife during a struggle with Funk, but he overpowered her and held her on the ground until deputies arrived at the home.
Mason-Suares has been charged with armed burglary, battery on a person over 65 and possession of burglary tools. She was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.
Funk refused medical treatment at his home, saying he would take himself to a hospital.
