TROY -- Little Ethan Anspach could not breathe and had turned purple when his hysterical mother ran up to Officer Jeff Combs on 10th Street Friday, begging him to save the tot.

"She was screaming and crying and she handed me her baby saying he swallowed a staple," said Combs, a 10-year veteran of the force.

"I was so scared I was beside myself and I could feel the staple but I could not get it out," said Ethan's mom, Lindsey Anspach, holding her son on her hip in the hallway of her home a few hours after the 12:30 p.m. incident. The baby found the staple on the back of a picture and apparently put it in his mouth.
