Donation to help APD buy police dog

(ALBUQUERQUE) -- Furrs Supermarkets and Milk-Bone have donated $5,000 to APD's Canine Unit for the purchase of a new police dog.

The winner of a Name-the-New-Police-Dog contest will be announced at a ceremony at 10 a.m. today to be held at Furrs Supermarket at 8100 Ventura.

Canine unit officers will be there to accept the donation and give a demonstration and answer questions. Children from Dennis Chavez Elementary School who are part of the contest will also attend.

The public is invited to attend.
