CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago cop was found shot to death his SUV Monday night, according to cops.

The officer’s gun and wallet were found inside the car, nest to his body, leading investigators to believe robbery was not the motive. The cop, whose name has not yet been released, was a 15-year police veteran who was currently assigned to the SWAT team.

Police Supt. Jody Weis held a midnight police conference, saying “I’ve done this too many times this year, and it’s with a great deal of sadness that once again I stand before you announcing the death of a Chicago Police Officer. This should not be happening.”

The officer was found dead in his car with a cigarette in his mouth, leading authorities to believe he may have known his killer or killers, according to Chicago Breaking News.
