PoliceOne Staff Report (CHICAGO, Il.) -- A Chicago police officer was shot, a suspect killed and other suspect wounded yesterday when a drug investigation turned into a gunfight at Chicago's Union Station, police said.
The unnamed Chicago officer was part of a DEA task force and accompanied by another Chicago officer and DEA special agent with the 1:15 p.m. incident occurred, police said.
The two suspects were bei8ng questioned by the officers after they had detrained. As the officer grabbed for one of the suspect's bags the exchange of gunfire broke out. One suspect was killed. The officer was wounded in the leg and the other suspect was also wounded. Both wounds were described by a police department spokeswoman as being not life threatening.
"When they (the suspects) got off the train, they apprehended them right in front of where the lounge was for Amtrak," Inez Hart, a traveler from Africa who was in the waiting lounge, told CNN. "They tried to grab the bags and take the bags away from them. There was a struggle, and during the struggle, they pulled guns."
