PoliceOne Staff Report (BAKERSFIELD, Calif. () --An alleged drunk driver is behind bars after leading police on a chase that reached speeds of 100 m.p.h. before he lost control of his car and rolled the vehicle over into a field.
Christopher M. Else, 27, was charged with drunken driving, felony evading police and driving without a license. Authorities said Else suffered minor injuries in the early Wednesday morning incident and was jailed following treatment at a local hospital.
He is due to be arraigned in Superior Court Friday.
Lawmen told the Bakersfield Californian that the suspect's blood-alcohol level was 0.14 percent, above California's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
California Highway Patrol officers told the newspaper that the chase began at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday at 24th and Oak Streets and continued on the Rosedale Highway and onto Renfro Road, where Else rolled his car over in a dirt field and was nabbed by pursuing cops.
Else, driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, ran through several read lights during the chase and turned his headlights off to avoid pursing officers, the CHP told the newspaper.
