PoliceOne Staff Report (NEW ORLEANS) -- A drug suspect at New Orleans International Airport escaped from officers, vaulted a railing and carjacked a pickup truck with which he struck and killed a highway flagman in his flight, police said.
The Tuesday incident began at approximately 1 p.m. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee told the Associated Press.
The unidentified man was driving the pickup truck at 75 to 80 miles per hour when it slammed into a highway project flagman. The suspect fled the vehicle into nearby woods. The pickup truck is owned by the wife of a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy, Officers were searching for the man on foot, on horseback and in helicopters Tuesday evening, the AP reported.
