Youth shot by officer dies after
being removed from life support
[Knoxville, TN]

PoliceOne Staff Report
(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) -- A 16-year-old boy who had been determined to be "brain dead" after being shot by deputy sheriff was ordered removed from life support by his parents; after he died his organs were donated. Although Robert "Bobby" Kinder Jr. was technically under state custody, it was his parents who opted to disconnect him from life support and donate his organs, the Knoxville News reported.

Kinder had escaped from a juvenile facility and was shot in the back of the head Tuesday by Knox County Sheriff's Department Deputy Harold Hayes Jr. The shooting came after Kinder drove off with another officer's arm trapped by the door of Kinder's truck, authorities told the newspaper.

Lawmen released a videotape Wednesday showing Arson Investigator Sgt. Mike Dalton being dragged by Kinder's pickup. The video was taken by the camera in Hayes' car, the Knoxville News reported.
