Obituary: Paul M. Beloff, state police sergeant dies at 66
[Salem, MA]

(SALEM, Mass.) -- Paul M. Beloff of Salem, formerly of Marblehead, a retired Massachusetts State Police sergeant, died Sunday at Salem Hospital. He was 66.

Born in Wakefield, Mr. Beloff was raised in Marblehead. He graduated from Marblehead High School and later attended a prep school in New Hampshire.

In 1957, he was appointed to the Massachusetts State Police. Throughout his years on the force, Mr. Beloff held various positions. He served as a public liaison for the department, worked in the communications department and was part of the Major Crimes Unit.

An active member of his community, Mr. Beloff was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, was the chaplain of the Masonic Philanthropic Lodge and was past president of the Philanthropic Building Association in Marblehead.

He was also a past exalted ruler of the former Elks Lodge 1708 in Marblehead. He also was a member of the Gerry 5 Volunteer Fire Association of Marblehead, Salem Moose Lodge and the Salem Elks Lodge 799.

He served on the Marblehead Traffic Safety Committee, was a former sheriff, had worked in the Suffolk Downs' Security Department and was a member of the Boston Yacht Club.

Mr. Beloff is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann (Proctor); two sons, Peter of Marblehead and John Dyer of Salem; three daughters, Tracey Haskell of Epping, N.H., Carol Nason of Newburyport and Elizabeth Wilson of Salisbury; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held yesterday at Murphy Funeral Home, Salem.

Burial was be in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.
