Black teacher protests police stops

February 15, 2001 Students at the Young Achievers Science and Math Pilot School were joined by teachers and parents Wednesday in a rally to support Robert Howard. Howard told reporters he could think of no other reason why he was stopped than his race. He has filed a complaint against the officer.

Police Capt. Frederick Daniels, commander of the Jamaica Plain neighborhood where the school is located, apologized to Howard for the inconvenience but defended the officer, saying he was doing his job.
