(NEW YORK) -- A police captain shot a gun-wielding man who wounded a patron at a Bronx restaurant early yesterday, cops said.Capt. Charles Girven, 35, a 13-year veteran, shot Cesar Cherino, 24, twice in the upper back outside Walpon Restaurant at 103 E. 169th St. about 3:15 a.m., police said.
Sgt. James Foley, a police spokesman, said Girven arrived shortly after Cherino shot 25-year-old Hector Rivera of the Bronx in the abdomen during a fight inside the restaurant.
Cherino was leaving the High Bridge restaurant with his .40-caliber Ruger in hand when the captain arrived and ordered him to drop his weapon and "not to move," Foley said.
Cherino refused and attempted to run while pointing the gun at police, Foley said. Cherino, of Southern Blvd., and the wounded patron are at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx in stable condition, police said.
