(OCEANSIDE, Calif.) -- A MiraCosta College police officer was injured when he tried to break up a fight on the Mission Avenue campus yesterday morning, police said.MiraCosta Officer Antonio Maldonado, 33, tried to break up a fist fight in front of the main entrance about 10:50 a.m., said Oceanside police Sgt. Kevin Kaiser. One of the students turned on Maldonado, punched him in the mouth and pushed him into a wall. The student split Maldonado's lip and ripped his badge off his shirt, Kaiser said.

Maldonado radioed police for help. When officers arrived, they arrested a 19-year-old from Camp Pendleton on suspicion of felony assault on a police officer. Maldonado was taken to a local hospital with facial injuries and pain in his neck and back, Kaiser said.
