Man charged with shooting while entertaining couple at estate that did not belong to him, La.

March 23, 2001
(COVINGTON, La.) – Investigators say that a Louisiana man took some drinking buddies to an acquaintance’s estate, claiming it was his own, and then shot and killed one of them during an argument.

Paul Ray Montecino Jr., 35, of Covington is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated burglary. The shooting occurred on a 14-acre property belonging to a former local public official who was out of town. Investigators say that Montecino knew a member of the family and knew where to find a hidden spare key.

Montecino was allegedly at the house early Thursday morning drinking and taking drugs with a couple he had met in a New Orleans bar. Sheriff’s deputies say that he pulled out a handgun during a dispute, shot the man and threatened the woman.
