Chicago man charged with endangerment after 5 kids die in fire
March 26, 2001 (CHICAGO) – A Chicago man has been charged with child endangerment for leaving five children alone while he went out to buy cigarettes.
Antoine Lee found the building burning when he returned. The five children all died in the blaze.
The children ranged in age from a year old to 5. Investigators say that Lee was the father of at least the youngest child and was minding them while their mother was at work.
Lee said he was gone for only five minutes. The children apparently became trapped in the second-floor apartment.
