More arrests made in Seattle's Mardi Gras

March 27, 2001

(SEATTLE) – The arrest total for Seattle’s Mardi Gras is now up to 22.

That includes 13 adults and four juveniles charged with felonies stemming from the riot that broke out in the city’s Pioneer Square district during the pre-Lenten celebration in late February.

A police Mardi Gras task force says that warrants have been issued for another 10 people identified from videotapes of the mayhem. Investigators say they have tentative identifications on another 26 people.

Both Seattle and Philadelphia were hit by drunken violence as thousands of people gathered in the streets on Mardi Gras. In New Orleans, where the country’s largest and oldest celebration attracted a crowd of a million or so, police reported few problems.
