Police shooting sparks riot, Ohio

(CINCINNATI) – Police battled rioters in Cincinnati as investigators tried to determine whether an officer’s shooting of an unarmed young black man was justified.

. Timothy Thomas, 19, was shot Saturday by Officer Steve Roach after a chase. Thomas was wanted on 14 warrants but most were for traffic offenses.

On Tuesday, protests over the shooting turned ugly with vandals breaking store windows. When night fell, crowds in the city’s downtown and nearby neighborhoods looted stores, set fires and threw bottles at police officers armed with tear gas and rubber bullets.
