Boston transit officer charged with beating unruly passenger

(BOSTON) - A transit police officer has been charged with assaulting a handcuffed man who was allegedly beaten so hard that his jaw and nose were broken and he lost four teeth.

William Smith, 45, of Buzzards Bay was suspended without pay by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority after his indictment Wednesday. He had been on an administrative leave.
