(DANA POINT, Calif.) – A young Southern California couple lost all their possessions when a man fleeing police set their apartment on fire.

James Titus Walker of Lake Elsinore in Orange County was gunned down in the confrontation Friday. Walker had just robbed a bank in Dana Point when he became involved in a shootout with sheriff’s deputies and set a mattress on fire in the apartment complex where Peter Mehran and Leah Olin lived.

The couple say they were left with the clothes they were wearing and whatever they had in their pockets.
