Deputies fired for Internet porn
[West Palm Beach, FL]

April 24, 2001
(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) – Officials say that two sheriff’s deputies violated departmental rules with their extracurricular activities, including posting video of group sex on the Internet.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ed Bieluch said that Timothy Moran and Ronald Thaeter had an ethical obligation to keep their private lives clean. The men also allegedly put material on profit-making sites, thus violating a departmental rule that requires authorization of outside employment.

A third deputy, Jack Maxwell III, resigned several months ago.

The American Civil Liberties Union provided legal help for Moran and Thaeter, arguing that the county’s rules were too broad and thus violated deputies’ right to free speech.
