Illinois Trooper killed during checkpoint

A trooper with the Illinois State Police was killed during a DUI checkpoint being conducted in Rock Island on June 23rd. MSGT Stan Talbot, 50, had approached a vehicle to speak with the driver when the vehicle sped away dragging MSGT Talbot for roughly 4 blocks. MSGT Talbot was taken to an area hospital where he succombed to his wounds. An intensive search is underway in an attempt to locate a suspect. MSGT Talbot was a well-known and respected officer by many in the two-state area. He had been with the State Police in a number of capacities for over 26 years and was due to retire in a few months. MSGT Talbot leaves behind his wife LaDonna, also a Trooper, and his daughter who is in her fourth week at the State Police Academy.
