Univ. seeks state probe of teen death in TASER incident

After an officer allegedly deployed a TASER Saturday, 18-year-old Everette Howard died of cardiac arrest

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A university wants the death of a southwest Ohio teenager hit by a campus officer's stun gun investigated by state authorities.

The University of Cincinnati on Monday said it has asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to review the death of 18-year-old Everette Howard, who was attending summer classes.

University police say Howard was struck by the stun gun outside a dormitory Saturday and died of cardiac arrest. Police say Howard approached officers, appearing agitated and angry, and refused orders to back off.

The university says the initial police review suggests all appropriate procedures were followed.

Hamilton County Coroner Amant Bhati tells The Cincinnati Enquirer that Howard was shocked with a stun gun and rushed to a hospital last year but hasn't provided details.
