COLUMBUS, Ohio — A video shot at a protest in downtown Columbus shows a confrontation between an off-duty police officer and another uniformed officer who was working as private security.
Witnesses began filming the incident after they saw off-duty Detective Roger Dickinson pinned to the wall, Mark Harrington, director of Created Equal, told NBC 4. Dickinson was reportedly assisting Harrington and other protestors who the uniformed officer — referred to in the video as "Jack" — had asked to move.
In the video, Dickinson yells repeatedly for "Jack" to let him go as he is pushed against a wall.
"Let go of me Jack! Let go of me. Let go of me now!," Dickinson says.
Other officers arrived as backup, and eventually the officer released his hold.
The Columbus Police Department will conduct an internal investigation of the incident. A CPD spokesman said the video does not depict the full story of what happened leading up to the argument.
Harrington speculated that personal views about abortion may have played into the officer's actions, though he does not know the cause of the violence.
