Cops Lobbying for Cops

Member Submission

Dear Fellow Officers,

My name is Charles Showalter. Myself, and others are lobbying Congress to correct pay and retirement issues for federal uniformed law enforcement officers.

Currently, Federal Police Officers not specifically mentioned in the "Law Enforcement Officer" definition must request special consideration from their agencies. This process is especially lengthy and costly for individual officer, officers are often denied on the basis of outdated job descriptions. Agencies within the federal government acknowledge officers for their law enforcement work, do not grant law enforcement pay and retirement status to officers in an effort to save money.

This happens even though our officers are fully engaged in the war on drugs and protecting our communities. Our officers are all to often injured on the job, or worse. The names of our fallen officers are listed on wall of the Federal Law Enforcement Memorial, but are not recognized as Law Enforcement officers for pay and retirement purposes.

The bill in congress we ask you to support is HR 1841,or the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act. Our officers are posted through out the country at Veteran Administration Hospitals, Military reserve bases, Immigration and Customs inspection areas at our airports, and other federal facilities. HR 1841 covers approximately 25,000 federal Law Enforcement officers nationwide

We need your assistance in our grassroots lobbying campaign. We ask that you contact your group member, and encourage them to contact their local congressman. Ask congress to support HR1841, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Equity Act.

A simple phone call to the local congressional office, a fax, or letter will help us greatly.

If you feel comfortable in passing this on to your group members, please let us know. If you are do not feel comfortable with this, we understand and respect you decision. Please feel free to contact us with any issues we can assist you with.

I will provide as much logistical support as I can. If you have any questions or need clarification please contact me at the following addresses or telephone number. Charles Showalter
