Texas man arrested after 10-mile police chase

A Jacksonville man remains in jail Friday night after a Bullard police officer chased him 10 miles through Smith County to the Cherokee County line late Thursday afternoon.

An off-duty Tyler police officer contacted dispatch around 5:15 p.m. Thursday when he witnessed Michael Clyde Jones, 46, assaulting a female passenger in his car.

Bryan Richards, a Bullard patrol officer, spotted Jones on U.S. Highway 69 in Bullard and a chase ensued. At one point, Jones let the passenger out of the car but continued to speed south until the transmission in his vehicle died on County Road 4911 in Cherokee County, Richards said. ...
