Ala. Officer shot and killed

As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

A Huntsville police officer was killed Monday afternoon while answering a domestic disturbance call in the northern part of the city.

Officer Daniel Golden, 27, was shot in the head about 3:45 p.m. outside the Jalisco Grocery, in the parking lot of the Tequila Plaza Latina shopping center.

He died about two hours later at Huntsville Hospital, The Huntsville Times reported.

Police said they were questioning two Hispanic men, who were taken into custody after the shooting. Their names were not immediately released.

Golden was first Huntsville officer killed in the line of duty since 1968, the newspaper reported.

"We've lost one from the brotherhood in blue," said Police Chief Rex Reynolds. "It's traumatic, tough, emotional."
