Officer Down: Police Officer Mark Beck

As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

La. K-9 officer dies in car crash

The Associated Press

BATON ROUGE — State police say a Baton Rouge police officer was killed in a crash.

Troopers say K-9 Officer Mark Beck of Zachary ran into the back of an 18-wheeler that was stopped at a railroad crossing near the ExxonMobile Plant late Monday night. Police say they’re not sure why Beck hit the rear of the truck, saying the truck had its hazard lights on.

Beck was pronounced dead at Earl K. Long Hospital a short time later. Officer Beck’s police dog was also in the vehicle but survived the crash.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
