Two Kansas Officers Shot; One Killed

Officer Down: Kurt Ford - [Newton, Harvey County, Kansas]

Incident: Harvey County Sheriff Deputy Kurt Ford, Killed (04/09/2005)in the line of duty during domestic/hostage rescue incident. Hesston Detective Chris Eliert also wounded but in stable condition. Both Officers are members of the Harvey County Emergency Response Team.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says police took into custody Gregory Moore, 46. He kept himself barricaded in his house for five hours after shooting two law enforcement officers in Newton.

The KBI says 38-year-old Harvey County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Ford was killed when he and Hesston police officer Chris Eilert entered the suspect's house. Eilert, 33, was shot four times and is in stable condition at a Wichita hospital.

The suspect briefly was barricaded in a house near 14th Street South and Washington.

The incident started at 12:30 a.m., when police were called to a domestic call at the residence. Police have been to the house before.
