Ohio officer fatally injured in crash on way to work
Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police say a fellow officer is dead after crashing his car on the way to work.
Department spokesman Sgt. Rick Weiner says 32-year-old Officer Robert Tormasi, who went by the first name “Jason,” had been on the force six years.
Police grew concerned and launched a search Monday night after Tormasi didn’t show up for his 11 p.m. shift. Authorities say around 1 a.m., his personal vehicle was found in a lake not far from his home in Delaware County, north of Columbus.
Tormasi was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy is scheduled.
Lt. Heidi Marshall with the State Highway Patrol says it appears Tormasi’s car went through a stop sign, then struck a guardrail at a sharp curve and went down into the water. Investigators don’t know why it happened.
