Off-duty Texas deputy injured in freeway ramp crash

The Houston Chronicle

TEXAS — An off-duty Harris County sheriff's deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital after his motorcycle struck a curb on an entrance ramp on the East Freeway early today.

Sgt. Wiley Hogue, a 23-year department veteran, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident, which occurred at about 6:30 a.m. near on the westbound entrance ramp at Mercury, sheriff's Sgt. Dana Mackey said.

Hogue is a supervisor in the department's patrol division but rides a motorcycle with department markings because he still participates in funeral escorts, Mackey said.

Hogue remained at the hospital late this morning but Mackey said no information was available on whether he was admitted to the hospital.
