Walker had been with the Waynesboro Police Department for two and half years. He leaves behind two small children. Incident Details Cause of Death: Cpl. Walker was shot and killed during a traffic stop. Date of Incident: September 28, 2005 Suspect Info: The suspect, 32-year-old James Elmer Hartley has been arrested. Andrea Williams, WTOK.com WAYNESBORO, Miss. - Just before 11:30 Wednesday night 32-year-old Corporal Jamie Walker was killed in the line of duty. He was shot to during a traffic stop. According to Waynesboro Police Chief Jerry Mosley, the shooting happened near the city's library. He says Officer Walker had approached the driver of a vehicle on suspicions that the van was stolen. Upon approaching the van, he says the driver shot Walker at close range with a shotgun and then took off driving. The stolen vehicle was later abandoned about 400 yards outside the Waynesboro line on Highway 45 heading toward Mobile. Since the incident the stolen van and gun have been recovered. Around three hours after the shooting, a suspect was taken into custody without incident at a house on McIlwain Drive in Waynesboro. For full story, visit: Officer killed in the line of duty |
