N.J. officer found 50 feet down; diver ends 5 days of futility

As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - "We found him. We got him. We're coming up," New York City police diver John Drzal said over his radio from the bottom of the Hackensack River yesterday, moments after locating the body of missing Jersey City Police Officer Robert Nguyen.

Drzal said he's recovered a number of bodies from beneath the waves during his 13 years as a police diver, but this discovery was particularly meaningful.

"I was just happy to find a fellow officer - a brother officer - and bring closure," he said at a 3 p.m. press conference, about 90 minutes after the discovery.
