As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Texas cop dies in wreck after transporting juvenile
Officer Down: Odell McDuffie Jr. - [Liberty County, Texas]

HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — Deputy Odell McDuffie was killed in an automobile accident on FM 770 in Saratoga.
He was returning from transporting a juvenile to the Hardin County Detention Center at approximately 1:00 pm when his patrol car left the roadway. He over-corrected, causing the vehicle to strike a grove of trees and burst into flames. Deputy McDuffie suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
Deputy McDuffie had served with the Liberty County Sheriff's Department for 17 years. He was well-known throughout the area for his easy-going presence, with officers said made him an asset.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
