As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

Officer Down: Justin Sollohub - [Anniston, Alabama]

By PoliceOne Staff

ANNISTON, Ala. — An Anniston police officer who was shot during a foot pursuit has died of his injuries.

Officer Justin Sollohub, 27, was on routine patrol Wednesday morning when he came across two black males in an alley way, sources say. Sollohub was reportedly shot in the head by a suspect during the foot chase that ensued.

After an intense manhunt involving several police departments, police arrested Joshua Russell, 25, who was charged with attempted murder. Russell’s charges will be upgraded to capital murder following the announcement of Sollohub’s death.

Sollohub had been on life support since Wednesday, and two of his organs are already in the process of being donated, according to WBRC.

One will be received by a patient at UAB hospital and another is going to a patient who lives outside of Alabama.

Anniston Police Chief Layton McGrady said Sollohub was a star on the force despite his short three years of service.

"Now we're all in shock," McGrady said.
