Officer Down: Derrick Whittle - [Union County, Georgia]

UNION COUNTY, Ga. — A Union County deputy sheriff died Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident three days prior.
Derrick Whittle, 39, was responding to a domestic disturbance when his cruiser struck a tree on the side of the road, according to ODMP.
Whittle, who had been with his department for less than one year, was taken to a hospital nearby before being flown to another facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was treated until he succumbed to his injuries.
