BILLERICA, Mass. — An on-duty corrections officer died in a single-vehicle crash, the Middlesex Sheriff's office said.
Edward Dillon III, 27, crashed his vehicle while conducting a check of property around the jail shortly after 4.am. Wednesday.
Sheriff Peter Koutoujian said working in corrections is known to be dangerous, but an officer's death is still painful.
A crash reconstruction team was sent to the scene, and state police are investigating, according to the Boston Globe.
