As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Off-Duty N.C. Deputy Killed In Wreck

Officer Down: Scotty Harold Church - [North Wilkesboro , North Carolina]

TAYLORSVILLE., N.C. - An off-duty Wilkes County sheriff's deputy was killed this weekend when his motorcycle collided with a pickup.

Scotty Harold Church, 28, of North Wilkesboro died at the site, officials with the N.C. Highway Patrol said.

The wreck occurred at 5:50 p.m. Friday on N.C. 16 South, about two miles south of the Wilkes County line.

Church was heading south when he crossed the centerline in a curve and collided with a truck driven by Tung Van Nguyen, 42, of North Wilkesboro.

The collision knocked Church's motorcycle back into an SUV driven by Danielle Sullivan, 25 of Wilkesboro. Neither Nguyen nor Sullivan were seriously injured.

Church had worked as a patrol deputy for the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office for the past year and a half.
