Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.
Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

Mass. Officer Found Dead
Officer Down: Amy Bergeron - [Methuen, ]
by Jim Patten, Eagle-Tribune
METHUEN, Mass. -- A 27-year-old rookie police officer was found dead
of a gunshot wound to the head in her Lawrence apartment last night,
The body of Methuen police Officer Amy Bergeron was discovered by
Lawrence police about 10:40 p.m., after a neighbor called to report
hearing a single gun shot in the Parker Street apartment.
Lawrence Police Chief John J. Romero said Bergeron was alone at the
time of the shooting. An investigation by Lawrence and Methuen police
as well as state troopers assigned to District Attorney Jonathan
Blodgett's office is continuing.
"I saw her yesterday. She was in a good mood. Typical Amy -- happy,
happy as ever," said Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon. "She was an
amazing person. She was the kind of person who, when you talked to
her, you felt good."
Bergeron had been with Methuen police for the last eight months. She
was appointed a reserve police officer in May 2000, and joined the
police department full time in January of this year. She was a
graduate of the Reading Police Academy, Solomon said, and was
enrolled in a program to earn her master's degree in criminal justice.
She had spent Friday fingerprinting more than 100 children at Gold's
Gym as part of the Molly Bish child safety program, Solomon said.
The chief said he had the opportunity to observe her at work and
found her to be a calm and soothing person.
"I watched her at calls and she was very good at listening, very good
at mediation," Solomon said. "It's a tragic loss."
