MARTA Cop Dies 2 Weeks After Accident

As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

MARTA Cop Dies 2 Weeks After Accident

Officer Down: Micah Brown - [Atlanta, Georgia]

Two weeks after his car hydroplaned and hit a concrete pillar in a hit-and-run accident, an Atlanta rapid-transit system officer died Saturday.

Officer Micah Brown, 39, suffered massive head, chest and back injuries in the accident. MARTA officials said he died today at Grady Memorial Hospital at 6:30 p.m.

Brown's car hydroplaned on the wet street and went airborne, striking a concrete beam supporting the overhead MARTA system. Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Brown from the wreckage.

Police arrested 36-year-old Rick Potts at his S.W. Atlanta home Oct. 8. He was charged with felony hit and run, DUI, failure to yield, serious injury by vehicle and driving with no insurance.

As a result of Brown's death, charges against Potts may be upgraded.
