Officer Dies of Heart Attack


As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

Officer Dies of Heart Attack

Officer Down: Sgt. John Maki - [Celeste, Texas]


It is with great sorrow to announce the passing police Sergeant John Maki, of Dallas, Texas on Feb. 10, as the result of a heart attack while driving to work.

John was a Sergeant with the Celeste Police Department, Celeste, Texas.

He was an alumnus of the UT Dallas Police Department Explorer Post #883.

In fact he was among the first group of students which entered the program.

John put himself through the Police Academy and received his commission.

Subsequently, he went to work for the Wolf City Police and then Celeste Police departments.

After receiving his commission,

John continued to serve as a member of the UT Dallas Police ExplorerProgram as an Associate Advisor and web page designer.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

His service will be greatly missed.
