Suspect Arrested in Murder of 2 PA. Deputies Shot Trying to Serve Warrants

As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Our commitment to remembering those with whom we shared the badge does not fade.

Godspeed, brothers and sisters. You fought the good fight. Now rest in peace…

Suspect Arrested in Murder of 2 PA. Deputies Shot Trying to Serve Warrants

Officer Down: Michael van Kuren & Christopher Burgert - [Bradford County, Pennsylvania]

The Associated Press

Gillett, Penn. (AP) -- A suspect accused of killing two sheriff's deputies who had been trying to serve warrants was arrested Thursday after a 36-hour manhunt, authorities said.

Dustin F. Briggs, 27, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Thursday while walking down a rural road and taken into state police custody. The arrest came after police received a tip from someone who reported seeing Briggs.

Briggs was wanted in the deaths of deputies Michael VanKuren, 36, of Warren Center, and Christopher M. Burgert, 30, of Sayre, who were shot Wednesday morning in the driveway of Briggs' junkyard. Briggs was charged with murder late Wednesday, Bradford County Assistant District Attorney Albert Ondrey said.

Briggs was being sought on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court. He was previously convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
