As you remember these fallen officers, take comfort in recalling that they dedicated their lives to the same principles of honor, duty and courage that brought you to the badge. Such a life is truly rich. Take strength in knowing that when an officer falls, our resolve to serve those in need is not diminished. Our dedication to protecting those in danger is not weakened. Services Set For North Miami Beach Officer Killed in Crash

Officer Down: Detective Orestes Lorenzo - [North Miami Beach, Florida]


Services for North Miami Beach, Fla. police detective Orestes Lorenzo, fatally injured in a car crash as he headed to his Pembroke Pines home last week, will be today in Miami. A Mass will follow in Broward County on Tuesday.

A viewing for Lorenzo, 40, will be from 4 p.m. to midnight at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Home, 8200 SW 40th St., Miami. There will be a small service at 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, there will be a noon Mass at St. Edward Catholic Church, 19000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines.

Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery at 11411 NW 25th St. in Miami-Dade.

On July 2, Lorenzo was about five blocks from home when a car making a left turn hit his unmarked Crown Victoria. Lorenzo's car went airborne and ended up wrapped around a tree. Lorenzo was ejected from the car after his seat belt snapped.

Lorenzo was taken off life support late Friday.
