Denver police arrested one of their own Tuesday on suspicion of felony trespassing, and Police Chief Gerry Whitman immediately suspended the officer without pay.

Adam Nuanez, 34, also was arrested for investigation of misdemeanor official misconduct and misdemeanor harassment, police said.

Nuanez posted $3,000 bail Tuesday and was released.

Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney's Office, said prosecutors are expected to file formal charges before his next hearing in county court on June 27.

Nuanez's arrest came after a two-month investigation by the department's Internal Affairs Bureau, which investigated the officer's behavior in connection with an incident at a Motel 6 at 3050 W. 49th Ave. on March 6.

The motel manager initially called police concerning a female motel guest, according to a court document prepared by an internal affairs detective. The nature of the call was not revealed.

Nuanez and two other officers responded, investigated the call and left, according to the document.

But about 15 minutes later, Nua-nez returned to the room, knocked on the door and entered when the woman answered.

In an interview with a police sergeant, the woman said she began to cry after Nuanez entered her room. She said Nuanez asked her personal questions and told her that he "wanted to be with her."

She told Nuanez that she was not interested in his advances, the investigating detective wrote.

The woman said that although the officer did not keep her in the room against her will, she did not feel free to leave, the document said.

The motel manager called police back to the motel after seeing Nuanez return to the room because she thought he was acting suspicious, investigators said.

When the Internal Affairs Bureau began investigating the case, Whitman suspended Nuanez with pay.
