Conn. officer faces discipline amid scandal

MADISON, Conn. — A Madison police lieutenant has become the highest-ranking town officer to face administrative charges connected to a scandal that has led to the firings of five other department employees.

The union lawyer for Lt. Michael O'Connor says the 20-year veteran's performance as a supervisor will be reviewed during a Police Commission disciplinary hearing expected to begin June 25.

The lawyer, Craig Manemeit, and Police Commission Chairman Emile Geisenheimer declined to comment further on the charges.

The commission has fired five officers to date. The panel also forced Police Chief Paul Jakubson to step down temporarily while investigators look into his management of the agency.

The fired officers faced allegations that they consorted with prostitutes and felons while on duty, threatened violence against other officers, stole merchandise from local businesses and misused a department computer database.
