Mich. officer wounded in attempted robbery
WARREN, Mich.- A Warren police officer was hospitalized Tuesday after being shot while trying to stop a convenience store robbery in progress in the early morning hours, police said. Both suspects also were wounded.
Patrol officers stopped and discovered that the doors to the store were locked. One of the men came out of the store armed with a handgun while the other had a sawed-off shotgun, police told The Detroit News.
At least one of the men shot at the officers, who returned fire. One officer, whose identity was not released, was wounded in the leg and transported to an area hospital, police said. The officer's wound was not considered life-threatening.
The suspects also were hospitalized. Their identities and conditions were not released.
A female clerk told officers that she was sexually assaulted by one of the suspects during the robbery.
