SALT LAKE CITY — A police officer shot and killed a man who authorities say stabbed two people, killing one of them, in downtown Salt Lake City late Wednesday night.
Salt Lake City police responded to a call of a stabbing in progress in or near Iggy's sports bar, 423 W. 300 South, at 9:45 p.m. Officers from another law enforcement agency arrived at the restaurant before Salt Lake police, and found one person had been stabbed multiple times in the upper body.
The injured person was in critical condition undergoing surgery at an area hospital late Wednesday.
When the Salt Lake police reached the scene, they were told the suspected stabber was in Pioneer Park attacking other people.
Salt Lake officers searched the park for the suspect, who was a black man. One of the officers encountered the suspect at the southeast corner of the park at 400 South and 300 West. The suspect, police say, threatened the officer, so she shot the man, killing him. Police did not reveal the number of shots fired by the officer.
In the park, police also found a dead body with multiple stab wounds
