NJ officer critical after shooting in the Bahamas

The Associated Press

NASSAU, Bahamas -- Authorities say a U.S. police officer was shot while vacationing in the Bahamas.

The Bergenfield, New Jersey, police department on Friday identified the victim as 49-year-old John Casper. He remains in critical condition.

Bahamian police say the shooting occurred near the home of former Prime Minister Perry Christie.

Christie's wife said he had been waiting for a visitor outside his home Wednesday night when he saw three older women and a man walk by. Shots rang out minutes later.

Bernadette Christie says her husband's bodyguards took the gunshot victim to the hospital.
